Summary

When Caroline learns that Max didn't graduate high school after missing only one exam, she determines to help Max earn her diploma and reconnect with her mother.

Plot

The episode begins with Max and Caroline in their cupcake business. Caroline tells Max that she has graduated from baking school, but Max says she hasn't even graduated high school. After learning from Max's former history teacher Mr. Huck that Max didn't graduate because she skipped her history final, Caroline takes Max back to her old school so she take the test. Max studies hard the day before and Caroline even tried to have Oleg quiz Max with flashcards (though Oleg was more interested in asking about a sexual band than American History and was also dumbfounded upon reading the woman's right to vote). Max reunites with her old teacher and takes the final alongside another delinquint named Hector. Max passes her exam while Hector fails; he even misses a question whose answer Max blurted aloud. Max and Caroline spend a night over at the school's bedrooms so that Max can attend her graduation ceremony the next morning. Caroline convinces her to invite her mother to attend; Max leaves a voice message of invitation. On the graduation day, Max's mother doesn't show and Caroline leaves her a vindictive voice message. But Caroline has also invited Oleg, Sophie, Han and Earl to the graduation to cheer Max up.
